Emerging from Sydney, Segana have been on an upward trajectory over the past few years, thanks to a musical style that’s energetic, playful, and highly engaging. Active since 2018, the Australian duo champions a captivating synth-pop imprint, delving into retro territories when needed. The result is music that’s groovy and dancy, while retaining a high melodic value, further enhanced by Segana’s fierce songwriting and powerful vocals.
Formed by Blair Djuna and JMap, the pair have now released their latest effort, a true 80s-infused banger that navigates fast-paced and enthusiastic territories. ‘Mercy’ is a treasure trove of past references: from the typical drum machine hits and noisy glitches, to the screamy vocal harmonies and anthemic synth riffs: the track could very well come from the year 1984, perhaps as a soundtrack to an action or romantic movie.
Delving into the single, Segana explain: “Mercy" invites us to dance, sing, and reflect – all while basking in the warm glow of neon lights and the echoes of a bygone musical era.”
