On Rotation: 'Boudoir Tears'
Confidently making waves a singer-songwriter based out of London, new alternative pop sensation Pixia brings boastfulness and honesty in her latest track, “Boudoir Tears”. Stylistically similar to the massive pop stars of the Y2K era like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera, built around an infectiously catchy loop that rings through the entire song, and featuring a booming rhythm section, “Boudoir Tears” is the kind of song that commands audiences to dance while also inviting listeners onto a deeper, more self-reflective path of Pixia’s psyche. For a song of such humble origins (Pixia began writing the song during a weekly writing brief while attending music school), it almost demands to be a hit across the globe; its chorus could get stuck in one’s head for hours after listening.
But what about the aforementioned deeper pathway that “Boudoir Tears” takes listeners down? Pixia mentions that while the song has a very playful and fun sound, the lyrics of the song reveal a significance waiting for those who want to listen closer. Never one to shy away from a bold writing move, Pixia wrote the lyrics with two simultaneous storylines in mind: the first being about feeling tired of being patronized (something that especially resonated with her as a young woman trying to build her career in the music industry), and the second being about the glamorization of personal struggles and mental health issues, or, as the song puts it, making perfume out of boudoir tears. This combination of depth and dance is sure to reward listeners looking for a deeper kind of pop music.
