Based in Oxford, the talented visionary champions a simple aesthetic: pursuing old, organic and ‘raw’ music making.
You see, for John, the act of creation is almost a rebellious action, a way to take a stance against the current music landscape, filled with synthetic goo and apathetic material. Not to mention the recent rise of AI. ‘When Said Is Done’ certainly sounds human, making you appreciate a recording style that’s not as common nowadays.
Speaking about the record, Goldrust explains: “Produced without automated short-cuts, it stands in defiance of the A.I. driven ‘muzak’ we will surely all be swamped with soon, where already auto-tune and quantisation have become the norm of modern music, to the detriment of it’s essential spirit!”
