Hi Angel, Welcome to AFX. What first inspired you to make music?
I was inspired to write, before I was inspired to make music. I remember the first song I wrote to some free beat on YouTube like 8 months ago now, and I loved the lyrics so much...it felt like a new way of being expressive of my emotions. My musical inspirations definitely vary across multiple different genres, but I find that it's when I listen to Pop / Alternative Pop, I think to myself yeah! That's the music I want to make. So I would say that actually, listening to music that I've loved and even music that I discover until this day inspires me and helped me to find my genre.
What’s your favourite part about being a songwriter?
It's amazing to just be able to put my thoughts and feelings into a song, it really is. Nowadays you'll find as well that a lot of what you feel, someone else has felt that or is going through that too. That's the most beautiful part - being able to write a song that resonates with me personally, and then also reaches the right audience to resonate with them. It really allows me to feel connected to my amazing supporters.
Do any of your songs based on personal experiences? If so, can you tell me about one that’s particularly special to you?
Well, yes actually a lot of what I write is based on my personal experiences. I'll touch on Angels a bit. Angels is a song which portrays that almost unspoken feeling of craving someone's attention, to the point where you begin to question your own thoughts when you aren't with that person... touching on a feeling that is so hard to put into words but as said by critics, "it combines the highs and the lows of something so intense perfectly". I would have to say that the combination of such realistic lyrics, and a more upbeat instrumental gives is what gave it that much more potential to do amazingly well; it resonates with many people without having to be the typical sad song. I won't go too far into detail about anyone it might've been about, as I don't think that'll be necessary hahah.
What's the best advice you've ever received about pursuing a career in music?
The best advice I've received was to establish who you are as an artist before you expect people to love you as one. I think it is so important to have a personal brand as an artist, it helps in so many aspects but especially with the fact that you're trying to reach the right audience for you, so you want them to be able to see what your vibe & aesthetics are!
How well do you know the music industry and its current trends?
As a new artist, I'm just getting to know the industry day by day, so I wouldn't say I know a huge amount but I'm knowledgable for sure. Have to be.
Where do you see your career in five years as a singer-songwriter?
I see my career flourishing by then, I genuinely do. Making music is truly something that has come unexpectedly but I have really fallen in love with it and I don't see myself stopping anytime soon. I hope to have done many gigs and fingers crossed, headlined my own show!
Would you like to share anything else about yourself or your music with our readers?
I don't think that many people know but, I am actually also a law student. I'm going into my 2nd year of university in September! Juggling music with my law degree is definitely going to be challenging, so if any of my supporters are reading this, please bear with me hahha.
